Design includes seismic upgrading, tying the floors to the walls and tying the corners of the building with seismic clips, installation of a new steel bracing to enable distribution of lateral loads via a rigid diaphragm. The walls with new window openings were reinforced with special details which help maintain the original lateral load carrying capacity. Design also included installation of new mechanical units at the roof and new floor openings for ducts and new elevator shaft. A new first floor steel structure was designed to rest on minipiles.
